The Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya made a commendable Yoga performance in the 23rd International Yoga Championship, held at Pondicherry. A team from the university participated in the program from 4th to 7th of January. This program is organized every year by the Government of Pondicherry in collaboration with the Tourism Department to promote yoga and yoga related awareness. According to the Coach, Shri Sunil Kumar Yadav, the performance of all the students was highly trained and commendable. As reported by him, Dilrajpreet Kaur and Neelam Raturi bagged gold medals in the age group of 21-25 while Garima Jaiswal grasped gold medals in the age group of 26-35. Among the boys, in the age group of 21-25, Navikant Jamaal and Surendra won the Silver Medals. In the same age group, Kuldeep Janghela and Rajesh Kumar Chaudhary grasped silver medals. Ku. Amrita in the age group 21-25 and Sunil Verma in the age group 26-35 were ranked at the fourth position.
On the arrival of the team back to the university, Dr. Pranav Pandya, the Hon. Chancellor of the University, congratulated all the students. The participants, sharing their experiences with the Hon. Chancellor, considered diet management as the major factor in helping them maintain their body balance. Dr. Pandya explained the usefulness and the importance of the concept with the help of related shlokas from the Bhagwatgita.
Dr. Chinmay Pandya, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of DSVV, said that the students of the university not only demonstrate yoga but also practice the Yoga Sutras in their daily life, thereby accomplishing mental management along with the body.
The team, on their arrival, was also greeted warmly by Dr. Suresh Lal Barnwal, the Head of the Yoga Department, and by all the teachers of the university.
